Tracing the Growth of Wrestling From the Early Ages to Modern Day America

Different regions portray different styles of wrestling. In China, the Shuai Jiao, which is the country's oldest wrestling style originated almost 4000 years ago. Wrestling was equally popular in Egypt, as has been seen described in their artworks and some tombs as well. Greek and Roman wrestling are very similar as the latter adopted and adapted the Greek wrestling style into their culture. England saw wrestling becoming popular in the 1500's and was categorized by its general loose wrestling pattern which was later organized into a professional fight fans sport. In the US the style developed by the Irish known as the "collar and elbow" style is most popular. It was after the American Civil War that freestyle wrestling became most popular in United States. Gradually, adult wrestling was established as a professional sport and in 1904 freestyle wrestling was given its place in the Olympics.
